Welcome
You will find here, many items about the history of the market town of Altrincham and its environs. Linking rural Cheshire and the industrial city of Manchester, its bygone times are rich and diverse.
The website was created by Altrincham and Bowdon Civic Society, supported by the HLF. It was only made possible by a host of volunteers, as well as the collectors, societies and institutions, who very kindly provided material to be digitised then shared into the future. Many thanks are due to them all.

Compare 1852 & 1876 Plans
The ‘Detail Plans of the Township of Altrincham’, created in 1852 for the Local Board of Health, reveal much about the state of the town and the lives of its inhabitants and workers at that time. On this interactive page, the numbered Plots are linked to a brief description and sometimes to an image of a building or street, with further information about it.
You can also compare the 1852 Plans to the OS 1876 Plans and a modern map.
